Sumter, SC (WLTX) - Thursday a Manning mother got to be reunited with some of her deceased sons' possessions.

"It's wonderful, but it is a sad day," said Vicki Lea Parnell.

We first met Parnell two years ago when she lost her two sons, Jessie and Cody, in a car accident. A few weeks ago, her trailer with all of their baby pictures, handmade ornaments, and other memories were stolen.

"My heart hurts because of all of this but it so wonderful to know everyone cares about us," said Parnell.

A suspect,  23-year-old Travis Rouse, was arrested and charged with grand larceny. Parnell says Rouse told Sumter deputies where some of the items could be found.

Friends, family and strangers went to the location and found most of the items in an eight foot ditch filled with water.

"All of their pictures are of course destroyed," Parnell said.

As the search went on, there were moments that shed a little light on a dark day.

"The ornaments, I am happy they are not messed up," she said.

Parnell said despite her sadness, she is thankful that people in the community came to help.

"The bulbs and things from the kids at Laurence Manning [Academy] meant so much to Jay and me," she said. "I am so thankful that a lot of them made it, some missing but a lot of them made it so we will have a Cody and Jessie tree."

Cody dated Shannon Scoggins's daughter and she says she wanted to make sure that she was here to help a friend in need.

"We wanted to help give them some peace and bring back their memories so they would have them forever," said Scoggins.

Parnell says she is just happy to get some of her boys things back.

"God is in this even in the lowest moment. A friend told me a [piece of] scripture that said these are just physical things, we will not need them when we get to heaven and that can bring us a small amount of comfort," said Parnell.
