Columbia, SC (WLTX) - USC Head Coach Steve Spurrier said he loved the support from fans during the team's opening home win against East Carolina--he just wished some of them had stuck around to see more of it.

Late in the second quarter, with USC already up by a large margin, some fans began to empty into parking lot. In particular, the USC student section looked thin by early in the third quarter.

Spurrier, it turns out, was watching.

"I wished they'd stayed after halftime," Spurrier said. "We're up 21-0. They [ECU] could have mounted a comeback. Hell, we were down 17-0 to these guys last year and had to come back. So, fans stay in the ballpark a little longer, gee. That party out in the parking lot will wait, can't it? (laughs)"
