Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Columbia and Lexington police are searching for a suspect who crashed after a chase Wednesday afternoon.

Lexington police say the incident began in the 4500 block of Sunset Boulevard when on officer attempted to stop a man for failure to use a turn signal. The suspect drove away from police.

When officers ran the vehicle's tag through their database, they say they determined the vehicle was stolen.

They continued to pursue the car until it went along Farrow Road in Columbia; at that point, officers broke off the pursuit because traffic was too heavy.

Columbia police found the car, and the suspect eventually crashed on Martha Street. The suspect then jumped out and ran into a wooded area.

Officers searched for him for a while, but were not able to locate the man.

Anyone who may be able to help with the investigation should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
