Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- If you live in certain Lexington County zip codes, you're eligible for a free Spay or Neuter operation for your pet, thanks to combined grants of over $20,000.
The Humane Society recently received grants from The Animal Mission and The ASPCA of $10,000 each, to grant free cat and dog spay & neuter operations.
Residents living in Lexington County, in the following zip codes, are eligible:
"We know that the only way to really positively impact pet overpopulation in the Midlands and to decrease intakes at our area animal shelters is to spay or neuter our pets," said Wayne Brennessel, executive director of The Humane Society. "We're especially thankful to The Animal Mission and the ASPCA for giving the funds to help us provide the surgeries for free to responsible pet owners whose animals need the surgeries."
The Humane Society has veterinarian staff ready to perform the free, pre-scheduled surgeries, under the following guidelines:
- Limit 2 per household
- Surgeries must be scheduled in advance
- Owners must present vaccination records prior to surgery
- Pets must be at least 3 months old
- Owners must show proof of residency in targeted zip code
If pets aren't current on their shots, the Humane Society can provide any vaccinations necessary.
