TILLERY, N.C. (AP) - North Carolina authorities say 51-year-old man serving three consecutive life sentences for murder has escaped while working on a prison farm.
The state Department of Public Safety says James Ladd left his prison job Sunday outside Tillery Correctional Center in Halifax County. Ladd was operating a tractor on the prison farm. Officers found the tractor abandoned just before noon. Tillery is a minimum security prison.
Ladd is imprisoned for murder and armed robbery. He was convicted in 1981 for the shooting deaths of two men on a Yadkin County farm.
