Irmo, SC (WLTX) - On Wednesday, Marriott officials, investors and South Carolina dignitaries broke ground on a Residence Inn Marriott Hotel.
The hotel is located off Interstate 26 on Lake Murray Boulevard in the Town of Irmo--the first hotel in the town. Once compete it will house 100 rooms. Residence Inns are designed as all suite hotels in which guests can stay for long periods of time.
"The partnership is proud to have local investors and plans on having as many local residents to staff the hotel and add tax revenue to the area," said Clancy Cipkala, a managing partner with Marriott.
"The best thing about it," added Cipkala, "is we are creating new jobs. We're going to have over 200 people who are just building the hotel and then also, we're going to probably have anywhere from 30 to 50 people working on a part and full time basis working at the hotel."
Cipkala says the hotel is approximately a $10 million investment which should be completed by 2013.
