Broward County, FL (WLTX, AP) - A missing 12-year-old North Carolina girl has been found safe.
Abigale Faith Lefevers was found in Hallandale Beach, Florida Wednesday evening. That town is just north of Miami.
The man authorities say abducted her, 38-year-old Timothy Newman, was taken into police custody.
Carteret County, North Carolina Chief Deputy Ken Raper said an off-duty Florida police officer on Interstate 95 was taking information on his phone when he looked up and saw a car matching the description posted by authorities. He summoned an on-duty officer, who captured Newman a short time later without incident.
Lefevers was last seen Monday at her home in Carteret County.
Deputies there say Newman is a register sex offender. Police believe that Abigale may have been communicating with Newman for several weeks. Police say that Newman was released from prison last year.
The disappearance of the girl triggered an Amber Alert in South Carolina when deputies believed the two were moving through the state.
