Blythewood, SC (WLTX) -- The victim of a hit and run speaks with News19's Nate Stewart about the accident and the importance of family.
The Highway Patrol says they are looking for a suspect in a violent hit and run accident that put a trash truck worker in the hospital.

While fighting for his life, 20-year-old John Dickerson credits his family, and his four month old baby Janilah, as his strength to survive.
"She's a big part of why I get up in the morning, and do what I do," said Dickerson. "She's why God put me back on this Earth. So I can be here for her. And Show her right and wrong thing to do."
Standing feet in the air, working on the back of a trash truck, Dickerson was struck by a mirror of an on coming vehicle.
"When I saw it coming, I braced for it like this. When it hit me, it knocked me out as soon as it hit me. They say it smashed me up against the dump truck all the way down."
All he remembers next is waking up on the ground face down.
"What kind of person could you be? You left me like I was a dog or something. Laying face down on the street. You didn't stop to check on how I was doing or anything. Just kept going?" Asked Dickerson.
His grandmother Vivian Cunningham also questions how someone could leave her Grandson for dead.
"I'm angry. I'm not going to hide that. I've prayed and all this and asked God to take away some of the anger and just be thankful that we have him but it's not that easy," said Cunningham. "By doing this, by going on TV, maybe somebody out there could help us.">
"It's hard to think of a human being doing this to another human being. I'm out there working just like you," said Dickerson.
While it will take a few months Dickerson says he will eventually heal. As this family leans on each other, they now hope for justice and the person who almost took their Grandson's life.
"Say he's sorry. That would make us feel better that this is not like an animal. That's what you do to animals. Hit them, and keep going. Not a human being," said Cunningham.
