Columbia, SC (WLTX)- Several businesses are operating out of temporary offices after a fire broke out at an office building in the 3700 block of Forest Drive September 26th.

One of those businesses is the Sexual Trauma Services of the Midlands which supports victims of sexual violence.

"We never closed our hotline, it was up and running the entire time," explains Ginny Waller, Executive Director of Sexual Trauma Services.

Waller and her staff continue to serve their clients and survivors with the help of several businesses in the community.
Half of the staff is operating in the South Carolina Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault building and the other half is at IT-Ology in Downtown Columbia.

"I think the hardest part now is we don't know what we need. We are kind of at the mercy of other organizations and businesses. We are on a wait and see pattern to know when we will be back in our offices."

Waller says the fire has put a burden on their staff but the hospital calls have more than doubled since the blaze broke out.

"If this has brought some awareness and survivors are interested in getting help because of the coverage, that in itself is a blessing. There really will be some positives that result from this and if that is it alone... that is wonderful."

The group says their 24-hour hotline is still available: 803-771-7273 (Richland and Lexington) or 1-800-491-7273 (Newberry and Sumter).
