Columbia, SC (WLTX) - Thursday night members from the community came together to celebrate the new Nickelodeon Theater.
"We have been open for about a month now but tonight is the night where we really get the community to come out and really celebrate what this means for Main Street," said Andy Smith with the Nickelodeon Theater.
Get a marching band, some people in cars and floats. And you've got yourself a parade.
"Everyone from the Columbia Museum of Art to the Eau Clair Marching Band, to the Richland County Sheriff's Department, let's all get together and celebrate what this can mean to Main Street, " said Smith.
The parade wasn't just to celebrate the new Nick it was to let people know there are businesses and fun things to do on Main Street said Smith.
"Are unofficial mission is to be an economic engine for Columbia. We think the arts have the potential to really drive the city forward."
Smith says they are already seeing a boost in customers at the Nick in their new location.
"We have been getting tons of compliments and we love the new space. We have had great crowds and it's just the beginning of another long history for us here at the Nick."
He says with the increase in things going on along Main Street, the best is yet to come.
"For Main Street it is all about bringing new people down here, hopefully opening new businesses and just generating a lot more energy downtown."
