Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Despite a large crowd at Five Points after the USC vs. Georgia game, things remained relatively orderly.

Slightly after midnight, News 19 caught up with Columbia Police Department Chief Randy Scott patrolling Five Points.

Scott said that Five Points was "pretty calm." There were 41 total arrests and 63 charges throughout Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Charges ranged from open container, fake IDs, third degree assualt to resisting arrest.

"It probably had more potential to get out of control," Scott said. "But I can tell you due to the planning that the City of Columbia has put forward planning for this night, I think that's why we've seen traffic is still able to move, people are still able to walk freely and the rest of Columbia is still safe.

Scott also said the majority of the problems he and at least 60 CPD officers had encountered dealt with drunkenness, but "nothing out of the ordinary."

He reminded Columbia residents that this is a hot spot of the city and CPD is doing their best to regulate it.

"It's going to be a hospitality area. It's going to be a college area. We just want it to be safe," Scott said.
