Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Browns assigned wide receiver
Jordan Norwood as their designated-for-return player on injured reserve
Friday.
Norwood sustained a sprained foot in Sunday's 41-27 loss to the New York
Giants, a game in which the 26-year-old recorded career bests of nine catches
and 81 receiving yards. After being inactive for the season's first three
weeks, he also registered four catches totaling 56 yards in a loss at
Baltimore on Sept. 27.
Under the designated-for-return rules, Norwood will be eligible to resume
practicing in six weeks and can be reinstated to the active list in eight
weeks.
To fill the available roster spot, the Browns signed undrafted rookie receiver
Josh Cooper from the practice squad.
Norwood was pressed into action due to hamstring injuries to wideouts Mohamed
Massaquoi and Travis Benjamin, neither of whom are expected to participate in
Sunday's game against Cincinnati. Massaquoi will sit out a third consecutive
week after being ruled out on Friday, while Benjamin is listed as doubtful and
did not take part in last week's matchup against the Giants.
Middle linebacker D'Qwell Jackson, who exited last week's contest with a
concussion, participated fully in Friday's practice and is probable to face
the Bengals. Defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin (calf) missed a third straight
practice, however, and is deemed questionable.
The Browns also officially activated cornerback Joe Haden from the
reserve/suspended list on Friday. The 2010 first-round pick just completed
serving a four-game penalty for testing positive for a banned substance.
