GREER, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a failed relationship led a man to shoot and kill another man before taking several people hostage inside a Greer home and wounding two deputies.

Greenville County sheriff's deputies say a man entered a house around 9:30 p.m. Sunday and shot and killed 48-year-old Kenneth Horton. Deputies say the suspect then took four adults and one child hostage.

Sheriff's deputies stormed the house around 12:30 a.m. Monday to rescue the hostages. Deputies say the suspect shot and wounded two officers. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

The officers returned fire, and the suspect was wounded. Several other people were hurt. Officials have not released the names of those involved or the extent of their injuries.

Deputies say Horton was dating the gunman's ex-girlfriend.
