(WLTX) - On Monday you have the opportunity to get a better understanding about the proposed penny sales tax increase.
The Community Relations Council will hold a forum on the issue beginning at 5:30 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
Both supporters and opponents of the sales tax will be participating in a panel discussion. The increase would put sales tax in the county to eight cents on the dollar for most purchases.
Officials say it would raise a billion dollars over 22 years.
That money would go toward improving roads, bus service, and expanding bike lanes, sidewalks and greenways. Those opposed are concerned it is too much money for taxpayers.
