MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - The two candidates seeking South Carolina's new 7th Congressional District seat have poured more than $1.3 million into the race.
Reports this week with the Federal Election Commission show that Republican Tom Rice has a big cash advantage heading into the final days of the campaign.
The figures reflect spending through the end of September and show that Rice had spent almost $840,000 and had about $390,000 on hand heading toward Election Day.
His Democratic opponent, Gloria Bromell Tinubu, had spent about $467,000. The report says she had only about $26,000 left.
The new district was created in the northeastern corner of the state, reflecting the population growth from the 2010 Census.
