Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The Dark Knight's Terror Trail is being resurrected, just in time for Halloween.

The Richland mall has gotten a frightening new addition with the Dark Knight's Terror Trail. And even though this is new for the mall, this tradition started back in 1999 with Founder Larry Oates.

But the attraction had to take a hiatus in 2003.

"Larry was diagnosed with lung cancer. He never got over the illness after that. With him down we just couldn't go on," said Scott Stepp, Oates' son-in-law and runs the attraction.

Larry died last November and the family decided to bring back the haunted house as a tribute. And for fans of the former Terror Trail, a couple favorites are returning.

"When we were designing the scenes, we brought back a lot of the old scenes that we used. Some of the ones we thought worked very well," Stepp said.

The Dark Knight's Terror Trail is set up into three separate guided tours. They feature fairytales gone grim like Red Riding Hood and a scary circus of clowns.

But the icing on the cake?

"It's our 'Zombie Zone,'" he said. "We added that this year. Just thinking that there was some way we could really kick it up a notch."

The terror trail also features a serial killer character you could see throughout your tour -- Dillard.

"We see Dillard running around here every once in a while. And he'll be in the elevator going up and down," he said.

The people at Dark Knight Terror Trail guarantee this is haunted house is worth the admission.

"We're not just going to take your money and pat you on your butt and just say 'Go look at something,'" Stepp said.

The Dark Knight's Terror Trail is located inside the Richland Mall. If you go after hours, the entrance near Sadie's is open. The attraction is running now until Halloween.
