COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - University of South Carolina President Harris Pastides is scheduled to make several announcements about the school's new research center for the aerospace industry.
School spokesman Wes Hickman says the announcements are scheduled for Thursday.
The center is named after Ronald McNair, the Lake City native who was among the astronauts who died in the space shuttle Challenger explosion in 1986.
The center was established after USC benefactor, former trustee and Lake City native Darla Moore provided a $5 million gift toward its creation.
Lake City has also set up a center in McNair's honor at a library which he was unable to use as a black child in segregated South Carolina.
