Columbia, SC (WLTX) - The Richland County Sheriff's Department is continuing to look for 31 year old Corie Lawrence, who they say attempted to rob a home in Columbia and then escaped from being in custody.

"Richland County deputies pulled a vehicle over for speeding, the individual told us that he was speeding because his girlfriend was being robbed at the house," said Deputy Curtis Wilson.

Wilson with the Richland County Sheriff's Department says the victims' boyfriend told them where the home was and arrived at an armed robbery in progress off of Betty's Lane in Columbia.

"It was fortunate that we got there in time so no one was injured in that incident," said Wilson.

Deputies say 31 year old Corie Lawrence kicked in the door of the home and fired a shot into the roof.

I spoke with the victim off camera and she says that Lawrence threatened one of her friends and said that he would shoot her.

"We were able to get into the home and apprehended the suspect and two others outside."

The story doesn't stop at the arrest. Lawrence and the other two suspects were taken to the Region 4 substation to be questioned before being transferred to headquarters on two notch road.

"The deputies and investigators were working together to get the stories from each individual, at that time one of the suspects fled the region 4 headquarters."

The suspect who fled was Corie Lawrence. Deputy Wilson says the substation does not have a holding cell. When asked how did he escape.. Wilson told us they are still trying to figure that out.

"We are trying to determine actually how this individual was able to get out of police custody, that's something we are looking into."

As I was talking to the victim she says Lawrence left something behind. Apparently his phone and on it a picture which she says is him and he is holding a gun.

Wilson tells us that after escaping Lawrence went to someone's home on the 100 block of Crestland Drive and got some clothes and a dog bed.

"It's one of those things where we are looking for this guy being out there for a long time so we are going to continue to search for him and we are not going to stop looking for him."

Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
