Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- So what IS the Penny Tax? How will it affect Richland County residents?
The Transportation Penny would increase Richland County sales tax to 8 cents on the dollar, or 8%, up from the current 7% sales tax.
According to the county website Richland Online, if approved by voters, the Transportation Penny would generate more than $1 billion over 22 years, to be used for major road projects, bike and greenway projects, and fund the bus service and transportation services for more than 10 years.

Administrative Expenditures: $32,100,000
