Richland County Still Counting Votes

Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The Richland County Election Commission began counting votes again Wednesday, as they work to complete the much-delayed results from Tuesday's election.

The counting began again at around 10 a.m.

Election officials say a scanner broke around 1:30 a.m., making it impossible for them to continue counting overnight. They got a technician to come in early in the morning and repair the machine.

As of 10:30 a.m., there were about 35,000 votes left to count, a number that included absentee, overseas ballots, and some computer data.

The amount of outstanding votes means a call can't yet be made on whether a proposed penny tax will pass.
