Columbia, SC (WLTX) - It was a long night Wednesday for members of the Richland County Elections Commission as they counted votes.

The Commission must have the results certified by noon on Friday.

The scarce number of voting machines at precincts and broken machines on Election Day caused long lines with voters waiting and a restraining order from the South Carolina Democratic Party.

That restraining order was overturned by the state Supreme Court and resulted in the ballots being returned to the Richland County Elections Commission to be counted and certified by Friday.

Over the weekend the county election commission discovered an error with some of the paper ballots.

The commission had workers manually fill out new ballots so that they could be read by the scanner.

After more than nine hours of counting the votes the county elections commission released the "unofficial results."

Key races like State House District 75 between Republican Kirkman Finlay and Democrat, Joe McCullough and the Richland County Penny Tax Vote were the most watched by residents.

The unofficial results showed that Finlay received 51% of the votes and McCullough received 48% of the votes.

The Richland County Penny tax also passed both questions on the ballot.

All the votes still have to be certified by this Friday at noon.
