Lexington, SC (WLTX) - With 17 days left until Christmas many people spent the day shopping, but for one teen he spent the day working on bikes; hoping to make Christmas better for families in need.

"It's great because we all support each other," said 15 year old Brandon Mack.

Being in the Boy Scouts is like being in an extended family.

"I mean if one of us needs help with something, we go to our family members," said Mack.

But you may be wondering, what do bikes have to do with the Boy Scouts?

"This all came about because of my Eagle Scout project."

Mack decided to collect bikes to give to needy kids on Christmas day, that one bike turned into more than 100 bikes that will all go to kids in need in the Midlands.

"I just thought it would be nice for some kids that don't have things for Christmas to have something really nice for Christmas."

Mack went around the community and asked people to donate bikes, some donated brand new ones and for the used bikes... his fellow scouts helped him refurbish them.

"I feel like I am making a difference in the lives of the children everywhere that I am giving these bikes to because on Christmas day they may have one or two presents and now they are going to have a giant present and we are putting bows on them that say from Troop 307."

He says he never thought he would get so many bikes.

"It's just really amazing to me that a community can come together so well to help other people."

Regardless if he gets the Eagle Scout honor or not, Mack believes that accomplishing a project like this shows it doesn't matter how old you are to make a difference.

"On Christmas day I am not just going to be smiling for what I get, I am going to be smiling because of what I gave someone else."
