(WLTX) --- Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy, but in 2013, USC's Jadeveon Clowney will look to be the first purely defensive player to snag the award.

Clowney finished sixth in the Heisman voting after a sophomore campaign that saw him become the first Gamecock to win the SEC Defensive Player of the Year award.

Manziel was helped by his the Aggies' win over Alabama and Clowney would need a similiar signature win by his team or an appearance in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta.
