(WLTX) --- Clemson assistant football coach Charlie Harbison will join the Auburn coaching staff, according to several reports in the upstate.

Harbison is in his eighth year at Clemson, but his second stint. He was on Tommy West's staff from 1995-97.

He returned to Clemson after serving as defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

Harbison was the Co-defensive Coordinator and coached the defensive backs.

His move to Auburn is not a surprise considering his close friendship with Ellis Johnson who was hired this week by new head coach Gus Malzahn to run the Auburn defense.
