Columbia, SC (WLTX) - All year people around the Midlands have been talking about the world coming to an end because the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012.
"People have been making comments about the end of the world," said Tut Underwood with the State Museum.
During this year there's been a lot of talk about the world coming to an end and what a better way to go out than at a party.
"It seemed like a fun event to come and celebrate the end of the world and if it does end I will be with a bunch of my friends," said Ken Blackstone.
"We are from Aiken, we got a hotel so we can party all night and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow. If tomorrow comes," said Bob Torres.
Thousands of years ago the Mayan calendar end date was set for December 21st of this year.
We checked with some folks partying the night away and they don't think the world is coming to an end.
"I didn't sell any stock, I didn't commit any crimes, but I am going to party like it is going to end," said Torres.
"I actually don't but it makes a great excuse for a party," said Blackstone.
We turned to the pros about what they think and Tut Underwood with the state museum says life as we know it...will continue.
It never was intended by the Mayans to predict the end of the world it is just that their calendar which was 5,000 years long just ran out," said Underwood.
Well we couldn't find any one at this party who fears for the lives, but, "I am sure there are a lot of people who did the bucket list but we didn't do that," said Torres.
