Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- A group of Richland County Lawmakers are calling for the resignation or removal of Richland County Elections and Voter Registration Director Lillian McBride.
The resolution was signed by 11 of the 16 delegation members, and calls asks for McBride to step down immediately.
The resolution cited "justifiably shattered" sense of confidence from the pubic as motivation for the action, saying "action must be taken to being to restore public confidence."
The resolution goes on to say that if McBride fails to step down by 4:00 p.m. on December 21, the elections and voter resignation board should hold a special meeting by December 28 to remove her from her position.
Senator Darrell Jackson and Representative Leon Howard are among those who declined to sign the resolution. Both said it has already been determined that the delegation has no weight or authority to ask for McBride's resignation or removal.
