Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Charlie and Kelly Serafine are the parents to the first bundle of joy in Columbia to ring in 2013.
Kane Scott Serafine was born at 1:20 Tuesday morning at 7 lbs 4 oz. He's the first baby to be born in Columbia for 2013.
"Since it was already almost 1:30 in the morning we didn't figure he would be the first," Kelly said. "And Lisa our midwife came running in and told us he was the first born in Columbia. The first little baby in the whole capital city."
Baby Kane was born at the Covenant Birth Center. He was originally scheduled to come around January 11.
"I was just very excited to be on the other side of it," Kelly said.
"I couldn't stop crying, I was so proud of Kelly," Charlie said.
Even with all the New Year's Eve commotion of fireworks, Kelly said it didn't bother her.
"I thought that that might hinder me being able to get in the zone and staty really calm for the birth, but I was so preoccupied with just wanting to be on the other side of this and getting through that birth," Kelly said.
The Serafines are looking forward to the new year as a family.
"It's still a little bit surreal, but we're both really excited. I don't think either of us could have asked for anything better," Kelly said.
"We're looking forward to a lot of changes, a lot of joy in the new year," Charlie said.
Kane is the first child for Kelly and Charlie and the first grandchild for their parents.
