Greeneville, SC (WLTX) - Two more people have died due to flu in South Carolina, bringing the number of flu-related deaths to 15 this season according to the Department of Health and Environmental Control.
That's compared to just one death from flu last flu season, according to DHEC spokeswoman Lindsey Evans.
DHEC officials report 862 people have been hospitalized with the flu since Sept. 30.
"The flu continues to be widespread in South Carolina and is active earlier than normal," Evans said.
The season runs from October to May in South Carolina, typically peaking in February.
DHEC says the best protection is a flu shot.
