Doctor Charged with Felony DUI in Pedestrian Death

Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Irmo police have charged a local doctor with felony DUI in connection with a fatal collision Sunday night.

Officers say they've charged 46-year-old David Lee Smith, 46, of Lexington. 

The incident took place Sunday night at 10:36 p.m. at 1166 Lake Murray Boulevard.

Officers say 39-year-old Raymond A. Geiger of Irmo was walking on the sidewalk when he was hit by a Land Rover being driven by Smith. Geiger was pronounced dead the scene.

According to police, Smith was unsteady on his feet and his speech was slurred after the incident. Two witnesses also told officers that his vehicle had been weaving across the road just before the collision.

Irmo police say Smith failed two of three field sobriety tests that he was given.

Smith works at Lexington Family Practice Northeast on Polo Road in Northeast Richland County.
