Irmo, SC (WLTX) - Raymond Geiger loved to walk, in fact his family says he walked just about every day on Lake Murray Boulevard.

On Sunday night, Geiger was walking home, just like he has done a hundred times, and he was struck and killed by a drunk driver.

"I always had a fear from him walking that he would get hit by a car but not in this way, not in this capacity, not being mowed down by a drunk driver," said Pamela Geiger, Raymond's sister.

Sunday night, Raymond was walking down the sidewalk heading home just a bit after 10 p.m.   Deputies say that's when David Smith, 46,  ran off the road onto the sidewalk killing Geiger.

"Me being the oldest, I thought I would be long and gone before he was," said Pamela.

She says it makes her feel bad to know that Smith, a doctor, would kill her brother by making such a bad  and fatal choice.

"I would think that he would know better, because I am wondering what kind of doctor are you that you didn't seem to care about running someone over."

Bond was denied for Smith and Pamela hopes he gets the maximum time in jail for taking her brother's life.

Knowing that her brother is dead and the man responsible is still living and walking around doesn't sit well with her.

"Whatever family he has can go and see him, I have to visit my brother in a graveyard at the cemetery. What I want people to know who drink and drive is that you have a choice, when you get in that car you can hurt someone or take your own life."

Smith works at the Lexington Family Practice in Northeast Columbia.  There is no word about his employment status.
