Kershaw County, SC (WLTX) - Kershaw County deputies have arrested a man they say was training dogs to fight.

Burton Lushawn Mincey, 42, is charged with 20 counts of ill treatment of animals, 20 counts of owning an animal for the purpose of fighting, possession of a stolen vehicle, narcotics violations, and possession of a pistol by a person prohibited.

News19 was earlier given information by deputies earlier with another name for the suspect. However, deputies later learned he gave a false name.

Kershaw County Jim Matthews says his officers got a warrant to search Mincey's home in Camden. When they went inside, deputies say they found 12 adult pit bull mix dogs and 8 puppies. Investigators say the animals were being trained for use in dog fighting, and that the dogs were "malnourished, abused and living in deplorable conditions."

According to officers, they also found heavy logging chains tied to the animals, shock collars, bite sticks, medical and steroid injection items, and treadmills.

Deputies says the also located a stolen motorcycle, a pistol and paraphernalia used to manufacture and distribute crack cocaine.
Matthews says the dogs were taken by Kershaw County Animal Control and are being cared for at the Walter Crowe Animal Shelter in Camden.
