Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have arrested a woman they say left a 2-year-old boy at home alone.
Officers have charged Tabitha Shea Jones, 21, on charges of unlawful neglect of a child by a legal custodian and possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it.
On Tuesday, officers went to a home in Gaston to serve a warrant on a woman wanted for driving with a suspended license. When they got to the door, officers say they smelled a strong odor of marijuana.
Deputies began searching the home to find the woman, but did not find her. However, officers found a bedroom door that was locked from the outside. Inside, officers say they found a 2-year-old boy wearing only a dirty diaper. Deputies say they found a bowl of cereal on the floor.
Officers say the boy had been home alone for two hours. Jones and two men--Brandon Lee Perryman, 22, and John David Swygert, 23--later came home while officers were at the house.
As they continued searching, officers found a two-foot water pipe that is used to smoke marijuana on a couch in the home's living room. Officers also say that Jones, Perryman and Swygert possessed about 128 grams of marijuana, which officers found in the home's kitchen, and that officers found three plastic bags that contained about one-half ounce of marijuana in Swygert's bedroom at the home.
Perryman and Swygert were charged with one count each of possessing marijuana with the intent to distribute it.
The boy was taken into protective custody, and medical personnel determined the child was physically fine.
