(WLTX) --- David Bennett has experience building football programs from the ground up.
The first head coach in the history of Coastal Carolina built that program from scratch, leading the Chanticleers to four Big South titles and two FCS playoff appearances in nine years.
But after the 2011 season, Bennett was fired in a move that caught many people throughout the state off-guard considering his 63-39 record at the Conway school.
Bennett was hired as Socastee's athletics director this year, but he always had a desire to return to the sidelines.
On Friday afternoon, he was officially hired as the new athletics director and head football coach at River Bluff High School - a facility that will open in the fall of 2013.
So, for the second time in his coaching career, Bennett will take over a brand new football program. While it will be different level of competition, Bennett will no doubt use the same principles for the River Bluff Gators as he did for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.
He is also expected to energize that school with his college experience and his unique personality.
During his last season at Coastal, one of his weekly news conferences went viral when it was describing how he wanted his team to be like dogs and not cats.
The clip made national headlines and Bennett ended up generating publicity for Coastal Carolina in the process.
