Columbia, SC (WLTX) - A federal jury has convicted the man suspected of kidnapping a Columbia teenager on a federal ammunition charge.

The jury returned their verdict against 52-year-old Freddie Grant Tuesday morning after about two and a half hours of deliberation.

Richland County deputies believe Grant is responsible for the kidnapping of Gabbiee Swainson in August of 2012.

The verdict Tuesday, however, had nothing directly to do with her disappearance. Officers had said that while they were searching for evidence in the case, they found bullets in Grant's home in Richland County. Grant, though, wasn't supposed to have weapons or bullets in his home because he is a convicted felon.

In testimony Monday, Grant's daughter told jurors she had brought the bullets to the home. Grant himself did not testify.

The federal ammunition charge could carry a maximum 10 year sentence, which could be increased to 15 years if the court determines Grant is a "career criminal" with a violent felony and/or a serious drug offense.
