Oakland, CA (Sports Network) - The Oakland Raiders announced that they hired
former head coach and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano as their new
assistant head coach/offensive line coach on Wednesday.
Sparano was the New York Jets' offensive coordinator last season but was fired
after just one season. Under him, quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled and was
benched in favor of Greg McElroy in Week 16. Sparano also had difficulty in
determining a role for Tim Tebow, who was unable to make an impact after being
acquired in a trade from the Broncos last offseason.
Before joining the Jets, Sparano was head coach of the Miami Dolphins from
2008-11, posting a 29-33 record.
