Sumter, SC (WLTX) - The Sumter Police Department is continuing to search for a serial arsonist who set three homes on fire last week.
"I feel threatened because they may try to set my mother's house on fire next," said Marcus Brown.
Last week fires at three homes on Sampson Street and Walker Avenue in Sumter have neighbors concerned.
"I was in the bed sleep and I heard someone yelling that there was a fire so I got up and grabbed the kids," said Shirley Davis.
Davis lives on Sampson Street, last Thursday night a couch sitting on her front porch was set on fire.
"It was in flames then someone started to pull the couch off the porch," said Davis.
Another home's window was broken and the curtain was set on fire. The next day an abandoned home on Walker Avenue went up in flames.
"All fires are serious but this appears to be very malicious in their intent," said Deputy Chief Alvin Holston.
Holston believes all three fires were done by the same person. Marcus Brown lives across the street from the abandoned home.
"I looked and saw the smoke and the next think you know, I saw flames as tall as the trees," said Brown.
Davis is more concerned for the kids.
"We got a lot of kids out here so we need them to find out who is doing it because we have a lot of people in the neighborhood that we don't want to be hurt," said Davis.
Investigators are stilling looking for the person responsible. Holston says whoever is doing this does not value others lives.
"Our arson investigator and the fire department is working around the clock but we have some leads that we are following up on," said Holston.
