ANDERSON, S.C. (AP) - A former Secret Service agent who authorities say plotted to kidnap a former judge so he couldn't testify against him is heading to court.
Prosecutors said James Bartee is scheduled to be in court in Anderson County on Friday morning. Bartee says the hearing is for a judge to hear motions in the case.
Bartee was running for sheriff of Oconee County last year when investigators say he talked to an informant and offered to pay him to kidnap a former judge. The judge was expected to testify that Bartee wasn't qualified to be sheriff.
Bartee was charged with attempted kidnapping. He has maintained his innocence.
