COLUMBIA, SC (AP) - A South Carolina educator and civil rights leaders is being honored with a license plate.
A ceremony is scheduled for the State House on Tuesday to unveil the plate in honor of Mary McLeod Bethune.
Legislators approved the specialty plate last year. Fees from plate sales support a museum and natural trail named after Bethune, as well as tourism in her hometown of Mayesville.
Bethune established the school now known as Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla., and founded the National Council of Negro Women. She also advised several U.S. presidents.
