Lexington County, SC (WLTX) - Lexington County deputies have charged a City of Columbia firefighter in connection with a beating during a road rage incident.
Jason Grande, 27, is charged with assault and petit larceny.
Deputies say the incident took place on February 27th on Maple Road and Mineral Springs Road. Grande was not on duty at the time.
An incident report states the victim claimed Grande was speeding down Maple Road. The victim pulled in front of Grande's vehicle, according to the document, and the two got into a heated verbal argument.
The report goes on to say once they reached a stop sign, Grande got out of his vehicle and approached the victim's car. The victim claims he then took out his cell phone to start recording the incident, and told Grande that he was recording.
The report says Grande told the man "well film this" and punched him through the open window. The victim says Grande took his cell phone and continued hitting him.
The victim got out of the car, the report states, and a witness said Grande got on top of the victim and continued hitting him.
The victim admitted to striking Grande while the two were on the ground.
The responding officer determined Grande was the aggressor, and took him into custody.
Paramedics took the victim to the hospital where it was determined that he suffered two breaks in his left leg.
Columbia Fire Chief Aubrey Jenkins says Grande is on investigatory suspension pending the outcome of the charges. Grande has been with the department for two years.
