MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Myrtle Beach's 75th birthday celebration is officially under way.
The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports about 150 people gathered in city council chambers Tuesday to celebrate with a cake shaped like a sand castle, punch and music.
City staff members serenaded the crowd by sinking "Happy Birthday" and "Under the Boardwalk." Myrtle Beach was incorporated March 12, 1938.
One of the big events for the yearlong party is an air show scheduled June 28th through 30th along the beachfront. The Air Force Thunderbirds were to have been the main attraction, but their performances have been grounded because of federal budget cuts.
However the show will go on with a number of private aerial teams.
