Columbia, SC (WLTX)- The Lexington County Sheriff's Department will offer a personal safety class designed specifically for women.
Females ages 11 and older are invited to the event, which will be held between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 4 at the Lexington County James R. Metts Law Enforcement Complex, 521 Gibson Road, Lexington.
Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts encourages women and teen-age girls, who are accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, to attend the personal safety class. Participants should wear casual clothes for the class.
Sgt. Diane Paavel, who serves as a crime prevention officer, will show participants how they can enhance their personal safety at home and at work and how they can protect themselves when approached by strangers, Metts said. Participants also will learn how to properly secure motor vehicles.
The class will provide citizens with many tips that they can use daily to reduce their chances of falling prey to criminals.
The class limit is 40, so those interested must register by contacting Sgt. Paaval. She can be reached either by phone at (803) 785-2504 or email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
