Red Cross Helps Myrtle Beach Fire Victims

Myrtle Beach, SC (WLTX) -- The American Red Cross is still actively helping victims displaced by a fire Saturday night at Windsor Green in Carolina Forest.

Sunday at 5:00 p.m., the American Red Cross will transition its shelter location from Ocean Bay Middle School to Beach Church, located at 557 George Bishop Parkway in Myrtle Beach.

Red Cross workers and emergency vehicles remain on the scene operating a shelter at Ocean Bay Middle School, but will transition the shelter Sunday afternoon to Beach Church, located at 557 George Bishop Parkway in Myrtle Beach. Since Saturday's fire, the Red Cross has registered 167 residents in the shelter. Workers and volunteers have provided over 450 meals and 500 snacks and drinks to residents and first responders.

The Red Cross has activated its Emergency Operation Center and is urging all people affected by the apartment fire to call (843) 477-0020 for assistance.

If you would like to make donations other than cash, the Red Cross recommends contacting their partner agencies, Goodwill and Salvation Army or contacting other local non-profit organizations in the community that accept non-cash items. 
On average the American Red Cross, Palmetto SC Region responds to a disaster every 6.5 hours. So far this year, the Palmetto SC Region responded to 1,097 disasters helping over 3,500 adults and children affected by disasters.
