Elgin, SC (WLTX) - Kershaw County deputies have arrested a Kershaw Town Councilman they say assaulted his wife.
Norman Allen Ernst, 41, is charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature.
Officers say Ernst's wife told them he hit her with a large flashlight on March 16th at his business, Elgin Quick Lube. She says she also reported an assault in the town limits of Elgin that took place March 17th.
Doctor's treated his wife at Palmetto Richland Hospital in Columbia.
Officers say they found guns in Ernst's house. Sheriff Jim Matthews says Ernst is a convicted felon, and is prohibited from owning firearms.
Officers say he was arrested in Mt. Pleasant, and that at the time of his arrest, Ernst had a shotgun.
