Shaw Soldier Killed in Log Truck, Vehicle Collision Near Base

Richland County, SC (WLTX) -The Sumter County coroner said a soldier is dead after being struck by a log truck outside of one of the gates at Shaw Air Force base.

U.S. Army Sergeant First Class Bryant K. Riley, 41, was killed when the pickup truck that he was driving was struck by a log truck early Monday afternoon in Sumter.

According to Hwy Patrol LCP Brent Kelly, Riley was driving a 2007 Ford pickup truck north on St. Paul Church road when a 2000 International tractor trailer log truck traveling east on hwy 76 disregarded a traffic light and struck the pickup truck. 

The pickup truck was struck on the drivers side.  Riley, who was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have yet been filed, Highway patrol continues to investigate the accident.
