30-year-old Deesonia Smith charged with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Police in Charleston say two women are in jail after the 1-year-old boy's babysitter beat him with a broom.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reports that the 1-year-old boy was hospitalized Monday. The child's 34-year-old mother told police that she noticed several bruises on her child when she picked up her two sons from their baby sitter.
An incident report said the mother asked her 3-year-old son what happened to his younger brother. Police said the boy told his mother that a woman beat the boy with a broom.
Police charged 43-year-old Madeline Mikell with unlawful conduct toward a child. They charged 30-year-old Deesonia Smith with inflicting great bodily injury upon a child.
Smith is being held at the Charleston County jail. Mikell is free on bond.
