Saluda, SC (WLTX/Associated Press) -- The Newberry County Coroner's office confirmed this morning that Frank Addy, Jr., the long-standing Mayor of Saluda, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head early Sunday Morning.
Coroner Craig Newton said the autopsy performed Monday morning ruled Addy's death a suicide.
Newberry County's Sheriff Department was called to a residence on Lake Greenwood in Newberry County early Sunday morning following the discovery of Addy's body.
Sheriff's Deputies and the Newberry County Coroner continue to investigate.
Authorities say Addy killed himself the same day a newspaper published a report questioning almost $38,000 in mileage reimbursements he received from the town.
A story published by The Index-Journal of Greenwood said several companies and organizations Addy claimed mileage to visit had no record of meeting with him.
Addy claimed he drove more than 48,000 miles in 2012 for economic development for Saluda.
Addy refused to talk to the newspaper several times, saying he wasn't feeling good. He then told the newspaper he would wait until a State Law Enforcement Division investigation into the reimbursements was finished.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster says a body has been found on land belonging to the family of Saluda Mayor Frank Addy.
According to Foster, deputies found the body at approximately 10:30 a.m. on Sunday on property located off Lake Greenwood.
The victim's identity and cause of death are currently unknown; however, an autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine those factors.
