Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- Columbia Police Chief Randy Scott has requested a personal leave of absence for an indefinite period.
According to a release from the City Manager's office, Chief Scott has not specified the reason for this leave.
Deputy Chief Ruben Santiago has been named Acting Chief of Police during Scott's absence, and will remain in place conducting the day-to-day operations of the Columbia Police Department until Scott's return.
Chief Scott retired on December 31 and returned to his job about two weeks later. At the time, he told News19 he needed to retire to take advantage of changing rules in the state retirement system.
