Columbia, SC (WLTX) -- The Richland County Sheriff's Department says it is now investigating the posting of nude pictures of high school students to a social media site.
News19 began looking into the issue after a tip from a viewer who said the pictures were being posted with the students' names and schools.
We're told it involved students in the Richland Two School District.
Reports say an Instagram account had photos of at least ten girls.
Instagram is a social media site and application, mostly accessed by phone, that allows users to share pictures.
Calls to the district have not been returned. The schools are on spring break this week.
The account involved no longer exists, but you can still find discussion of it on some social media sites.
The state attorney general's office says that taking, posting, saving and sharing nude pictures of people under 18 is against the law and can result in fines or jail time.
