Saluda County, SC (WLTX)- Sunny Z Foods is establishing a new facility in Saluda County. The $12 million dollar investment is expected to generate 150 new jobs toward the end of the year.
Heading up 378 from Columbia you will spot the old Milliken plant, it's been sitting empty since 2003. It will soon be a bustling place with 150 new employees of Sunny Z Incorporated.
"I think they like the facility and the location," said Donald Hancock, Chairman of Saluda County Council.
The company produces pre-packaged instant meals and says the new facility will allow them to reach markets along the East Coast.
Hancock says the project has been in the works since January of 2013 and it's big news for a small town. Saluda has a population of just 3,000 people. Their unemployment rate sits at 7.5%, which is below the South Carolina's rate of 8.6%.
"It is obviously going to diversify our economy, it will expand our tax base and of course provide 150 jobs." said Donald Hancock.
The company will announce plans for the hiring process at a later date.
