Newberry County, SC (WLTX) -- Newberry County deputies arrested a man they say kidnapped a woman and led them on a chase Monday morning.
Officers identified the suspect as 50-year-old Henry Phoenix Davis.
Deputies say they received a call about a kidnapping off US 176 near Peak. Soon after, a deputy spotted the suspect's vehicle on SC 219. Officers say the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver didn't yield.
The chase went through the city of Newberry, and eventually ended in downtown Saluda, where Davis was taken into custody. The woman was found in the car alongside Davis.
Deputies say the victim told them she started working with Davis last Friday as part of his non-profit business. She told officers she asked Davis to take her home, but he refused, and began driving around.
Sheriff Lee Foster says at one point, the suspect stopped to use the restroom. When he did, Fosters says the victim got into the driver's seat and took off in the car. Before she did, however, the suspect got into the trunk. Deputies say when the victim stopped for a school bus, Davis was able to get back into the front part of the car, pushed her from the seat, and began driving.
The investigation continues.
